Community Guidelines

At BuildZoom we place a premium on the value of open dialogue. In fact, the dialogue that happens between contractors and property owners is all we have that distinguishes us from any other service out there. This means that we don't censor and we really care about what people have to say - even if it isn't always positive. There are however some things we will not tolerate:

Intent to harm

At one time or another we have all had negative experiences with contractors. Maybe the contractor hasn't shown up on time, performed what we would consider below average work or tried to upsell us too much. If that was the case, we want to know however we want a clear and objective statement of what exactly happened. We will not tolerate comments that just focus on how much so-and-so contractor sucks without a rational explanation. We categorize these posts as "intent to harm," and reserve the right to remove them.

Obscenity

Although the vast majority of our users are above the age of 18, it doesn't mean we will accept R-rated content showing up on our site. BuildZoom is a place we would want our kids to be able to read (if our kids cared about home improvement instead of home destruction). This means we will not tolerate obscene words, sexual content or anything else that we would not consider G-rated content.

SPAM

We won't allow spam to be posted to our site. We consider SPAM to be the advertising or sales of a product that has absolutely nothing to do with the context in which it was posted. In other words, if you post a comment with a link to a site where you can purchase viagra, you will be censored. However, this does not mean if you reference or link to a product that makes sense in the context of what you are discussing we will necessarily remove it.

Hate speech

We will not tolerate any comment we deem to be prejudiced in any way. This includes racism, sexism, ageism or any other -ism that you can think of, which refers to the unfair portrayal of a particular group.

Irrelevance

Although we aren't necessarily going to penalize you for this one, please don't tell us what you fed your cat for breakfast in a comment left on a contractor's profile. That is what Twitter is for.
