FAQ

  1. What is BuildZoom?

BuildZoom is a community built around home improvement that is for both homeowners and contractors.  With BuildZoom, homeowners can find information about contractors they may want to work with and share information about contractors they have worked with in the past.  Contractors use BuildZoom to provide information about their company and share their portfolio with the general public.

  2. How does it work?

Much of BuildZoom centers around the contractor profile pages that are made publicly available.  To add value to these contractor profile pages, we take input from homeowners, our own data on contractors, and combine that with information provided from the contractors themselves.

  3. How is BuildZoom different from comparable services?

Other services either charge homeowners for access to information on contractors or ask homeowners to provide information on projects they need help. The homeowner then becomes a lead that is sold to a contractor.  BuildZoom is different.  At BuildZoom, we make our information freely available because we believe in the value of collaboration.  The more people who comment, rate and share their thoughts, the better BuildZoom is for everyone.  Our mission is to build a resource that helps the general public make educated decisions about who they hire to work on their homes while also helping contractors more effectively promote their businesses.

  4. So how does BuildZoom make money then?

BuildZoom makes money from selling advertising on the site as well as by allowing contractors to claim their profile and become a BuildZoom sponsor.  Contractors who claim their profile and become a BuildZoom sponsor have the ability to add additional information about their business to the site, showcase their projects to the public, and are also given visibility in clearly indicated sponsored sections of the site.

  5. I am a contractor, how do I claim my profile?

Claiming a profile couldn't be easier.  The first step involves finding your profile by using our search tool.  Once you have found your profile, click on the link to 'claim this profile.' You will be asked to fill out a brief registration form.  We will then go through a validation process to make sure you are the rightful owner of a profile and once that has been completed you will have claimed your profile.

  6. Do BuildZoom sponsors have complete control over their profile?

The short answer is no.  Sponsors have the ability to add additional information about their business and showcase projects they have worked on.  They don't have the ability to manipulate their community-driven rating score nor delete negative feedback from homeowners they have worked with.

  7. What does "BuildZoom verified" mean?

We verify certain information about contractors listed on BuildZoom.com (i.e. license status) with the State where they are licensed. Make sure the "BuildZoom verified" indicator is present otherwise we have not yet verified the information listed on the profile.
