How important is the quality of paint used? Does it actually affect the outcome?

related question I’ve thought about… is there any difference in paint you get at big box stores vs paint specialty stores when the price point is the same? In other words, is a $50 can of paint the same at Home Depot and Benjamin Moore? I prefer getting paint at specialty stores, but sometimes you can’t beat convenience of getting everything at one place? Thoughts? @gentexpainting @michael.shanaberger

Quality products is very important if you want a professional outcome.

what’s your preferred interior paint?

Yea the quality plays a huge role in the quality of the outcome. I swear by Benjamin Moore. Coverage workability and finish is always top notch with Benjamin Moore

Do you just use any old shampoo? Toothpaste? Oil for your vehicle? Would it be better to side your home with cheap, low-quality siding?
Of course the quality of the paint used is important! And yes, it does effect the outcome. Cheaper paints don’t cover as well for one thing. They tend to ‘separate’ and ‘spread’ on the wall after applying. They don’t last as long and they don’t wipe clean as well. Oftentimes, they show brush and roll marks much more distinctly. It takes more paint to cover an area with cheap paint than with quality paint. And speaking from the painter’s point of view, they aren’t as easy to apply.
Stick with a high-quality paint. Every major brand has them (as well as their low-end paints). Personally, I really like Sherwin-Williams ‘Duration’ for exterior paint and Sherwin-Williams ‘Cashmere’ for interior paint.
