What can I do as a homeowner to make sure my remodeling project is successful?

Definitely go online and check out the reviews of any contractor you are about to hire. Wire Wiz Electrician Services has many reviews that we have accumulated through the years which can be reviewed on many different online sites.

Always make sure they are licensed and insured, check social media for reviews, ask to see a portfolio and go with your gut!!

First always ask for the contractor credentials, insurances, licenses and before signing a contract make sure to visit one or 2 sites where your contractor is currently working.

Ask questions. Ask your friends and neighbors to recommend a contractor that they have had business with. Check the BBB and on line reviews. Ask the contractor that you choose questions. Get a written estimate. Don’t pay out money until work is completed.

Dear Client,

The most important thing for you to do before hiring a contractor is make sure that they have an active license number, along with a valid bond and insurance. You can check the license information at cslb.ca.gov.
Ask for a picture ID from the Business Owner as well and if it is a rep being sent to your house, make sure that they are registered as a Salesperson for that specific company.

Perfect Construction

If you are thinking of a potential project, try to go over what you are trying to accomplish. Many homeowners think they would like to do a project but don’t really put the time in that they need to to start the project. The more information you can give to the contractor initially, the quicker the project can be started and completed in a timely manner, which in turn saves the owner money.

Hire a licensed contractor. Make sure you have a written contract.

There are a couple of major things a homeowner can do to make sure that their remodeling or repair project is successful.

  1. Be clear about what you want
  2. Be open to whether or not your project is realistic
  3. Be clear about when you need the job done
  4. Make sure that you can afford what you want

Being clear with the scope of work. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

1: Take the time to interview your contractor.
2: Get an estimate in writing.
3: Require insurance and workers comp certificates.
4: Have a set payment plan in place based on progress of work.
5: Explain your experience or knowledge on the work being done, or lack thereof, and ask for help understanding what is being done.
6: Be willing to understand that you and the contractor are on the same team and delays happen that are usually out of his control, hopefully.

Dear Valued Customer,

To ensure a successful remodel project, I will give you 8 steps to abide by when selecting a true professional to complete your project with 100% satisfaction.

  1. Solicit bids from respectable Contractor review sites such as buildzoom

  2. Do research on your selected Contractors

  3. Ask for references

  4. Make sure they are licensed and insured

  5. Do not select not the cheapest bid! This is a big warning sign, often too good to be true

  6. Make sure that your estimate is itemized for all services rendered

  7. Make sure that your selected Contractor has all the details of the job written on invoice

  8. Sit back and relax…you’ve done your part!

If you are building a pool or buying a home with a pool, we recommend contacting us prior to building or moving into the home. When building a pool, safety is not the top priority usually. Design is. If we are brought into the build process early, we can consult with you on your pool safety options BEFORE you build which allows the incorporation to flow much easier. If you are buying a home with a swimming pool, we encourage people to call Pool Guard before they move in so that all safety precautions can be taken regarding the pool (if a pool safety fence needs installation, pool safety net or event pool safety cover needs to be installed) particularly in the even that the buyer has children and not lived in a home with a swimming pool. The attraction of the pool to a child is tremendous, which is why we recommend contacting Pool Guard prior to moving into the home.

Have a clear picture of the scope of work you need done

Everything stated is the obvious in terms of making sure the contractor is licensed and insured. Pick out your colors, flooring or have a general idea of finishes, also.
What’s important is that you hire a contractor who is passionate with what they do, a contractor that treats you like a person and not a blank check, someone who will use your ideas, assist with ideas, and makes you feel like you are going to be happy with the end result simply because you are looking forward to it knowing that the contractor made you feel that you, your family and home matters. Profit is a given in the end. What matters is that you as a client are really happy and feeling comfortable with the process.

Make sure they keep it simple!

Communication daily with your contractor makes for a successful project.

Communicate, communicate, communicate. Unfortunately we are not mind-readers, so we need to be aware of everything - materials you may have purchased on your own, changes you’d like to make, questions you may have, or quality concerns. Likewise we do our best to stay transparent on our end by keeping you up to date on progress and any hiccups we come across. Due to the nature of the field things can change on short notice and the best way to combat major issues is open communication.

Make sure you hire a licensed, experienced, and insured contractor for your remodel needs. Ask the contractor to provide references and discuss the similar projects they have completed.

Plan ahead of time.
It is very important for a project to be planned ahead of time in order to go smooth and stay at the agreed budget. Once the customer knows what is the product he/she wants and most certainly need, it will help avoid mistakes and unnecessary spending.
