Whats the risk with choosing a contractor that is not licensed?

A person that is not licensed is not really a general contractor in a state that requires a license. If they are not licensed it could be cost issue, or something else but in some states home owners can pull a permit and have the supposed contractor help do the work on the permit pulled for the project, so in the end the home owner and helper can get their project inspected and hopefully pass easing the mind of the customer. There’s a risk of hiring a general contractor or non- licensed person that is not insured. Anybody can buy a general contractor’s license it doesn’t mean they can financially cover any damages it’s more important to look for insurance. Having a license makes it possible for the contractor to pull permits and get taxed that’s all it really does. I’m a general contractor and I was insured before I got my license. I worked without a license for years and fixed issues that license contractors supposedly fixed, so it best to go with references.

Always hire licensed and insured contractors, whether required by the state or not. Hiring licensed and insured contractors offers you many protections under the law.

It is a risky to choose a contractor without a active license contractor,
You can’t trust them,
Very poor customer service,

What is the risk? Buyer beware

Having a licensed and fully insured contractor its peace of mind for any one who has a project.
Licensed contractors go through a test and backgrounds check and insurance is to insure that if any accident happens the customer is insured.
So as a licensed builder-contractor for over a decade in NYC i would recommend a licensed and fully insured contractor to any person who needs any type of projects they may have.
