{"id":4420,"date":"2015-02-16T20:51:41","date_gmt":"2015-02-16T20:51:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.buildzoom.com\/blog\/?page_id=4420"},"modified":"2025-04-26T00:03:13","modified_gmt":"2025-04-26T00:03:13","slug":"buildzoom-contractor-scoring-system-works","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.buildzoom.com\/blog\/guides\/buildzoom-contractor-scoring-system-works","title":{"rendered":"How the BuildZoom contractor scoring system works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The purpose of the BuildZoom contractor score is to provide a unit that both quantifies and summarizes some of the more important characteristics of a contractor.\u00a0The score is used in a number of ways on BuildZoom:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px;\">It informs how contractors are displayed on listing pages throughout the site.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>It helps determine which contractors are eligible to receive information about new client projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here are some of the main signals the score considers (along with approximate weighting of the variable):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px;\"><span style=\"line-height: 13px;\">License status with the governing license board (high importance)\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buildzoom.com\/data\">History of verified and permitted work<\/a> (high importance)<\/li>\n<li>User reviews gathered from clients who hired through BuildZoom (high importance)<\/li>\n<li>Information gathered from local government consumer protection agencies (medium importance)<\/li>\n<li>Reviews gathered from clients who did not hire through BuildZoom (medium importance)<\/li>\n<li>Contractor participation on BuildZoom (medium importance)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A contractor can influence their own score to a certain extent, by providing high-quality answers to consumer questions in our forum or by showing a consistent track record of following-up with clients referred to them by BuildZoom, however these actions would never hold more weight than the status of their license.
