Fifteen years after opening its first store, Apple has rebooted its store design. The new Apple store boasts a 50 foot green wall, 42-foot tall sliding glass doors, a 6k video wall, and uses 100% renewable energy.\u00a0<strong>But<\/strong>\u00a0here is some information not found in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/pr\/library\/2016\/05\/19Apple-Union-Square-Highlights-New-Design-Elements-Community-Programs.html\">press release<\/a>\u00a0and instead uncovered from Buildzoom\u2019s national building permit database.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">San Diego based\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.buildzoom.com\/contractor\/ledcor-construction-inc\">Ledcor Construction<\/a>\u00a0was responsible for the majority of the\u00a0<strong>$23.6 million<\/strong>\u00a0project estimated in building permits.<\/p>\n<p>Permits reveal work on a unique canopy and the open framing for the building and also teach us these interesting things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>*<\/strong>\u00a0The initial permit for this project was the building\u2019s shell, which had an estimated value of\u00a0<strong>$19 million.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>*<\/strong>\u00a0The staircases in the new store were integral to the design and racked up a\u00a0<strong>$1.1 million<\/strong>\u00a0job value.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>*<\/strong>\u00a0A 50 KW photovoltaic array is used to power the entire site and the installation of the panels had a job value of\u00a0<strong>$800,000.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>*<\/strong>\u00a0The signs for the new store required two permits on their own. A\u00a0<strong>$2,000<\/strong>\u00a0permit to mount a stainless steel sign and a\u00a0<strong>$80,000<\/strong>\u00a0permit to install a sign in the ground.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>*<\/strong>\u00a0The giant video wall in \u201cThe Forum\u201d, the store\u2019s gathering place, required\u00a0<strong>$50,000<\/strong>\u00a0worth of structural supports.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>*<\/strong>\u00a0The mobile storage shelving required a\u00a0<strong>$50,000<\/strong>\u00a0permit to build.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>*<\/strong>\u00a0To account for San Francisco earthquakes, four seismic-related permits were filed for the project.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ten of the sixty some odd permits filed for this project contained revisions or corrections in the description, which makes us think that there were a lot of changes made mid-project.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">You can track future work and view all permits for address, and all other addresses, at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.buildzoom.com\/property-info\/300-post-st-san-francisco-ca\">property\u2019s Buildzoom page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h6>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/h6>\n<h6>Photo from 9to5Mac<\/h6>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apple\u2019s new store in San Francisco\u2019s Union Square\u00a0is now open.
