In the past 14 days, we have filtered through over 250,000 building permits from around the country. After spending hours looking into what construction is going on we have picked 6 projects that we think deserve a little extra attention. This week\u2019s projects came from alerts we created for large projects, iconic buildings, data centers, tech company construction.<\/span><\/p>\n

Facebook Data Center<\/b><\/h1>\n

The Facebook data center in Fort Worth is making progress. The exterior of the <\/span>two-building project<\/span><\/a> is almost complete and is expected to be online by the end of 2017. However, evidence of the third building has just surfaced. On April 26th, a $270 Million permit was submitted to the Fort Worth Building Department for the entirety of the third structure. While permits for the $13 million foundation of the building were submitted in December both permits are still under review by the city of Fort Worth. <\/span>California\u2019s DPR Construction remains the general contractor of the project. <\/span><\/p>\n

Empire State Building<\/b><\/h1>\n

The Empire State Building is undergoing a $30 million renovation. Permits for the project were issued to Shanska USA Building on April 11th. The renovations will include work on the 1st, 2nd, 80th and 86th floors and will be related to the tourist areas of the building including the observation deck.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apple Store<\/b><\/h1>\n

The glass cube at the NYC apple store will be temporarily removed for the store’s renovations. On April 17th, a building permit was issued to the 5th Avenue location for the<\/span> “f<\/b>ull removal of the glass cubical structure at the apple store entrance”. <\/b>\u00a0The project was initially filed on March 16th and almost exactly a month later was approved. Permits indicate that the job is estimated to cost $2 million. \u00a0But don\u2019t worry the cube will be back.<\/span><\/p>\n

Boston Ben and Jerry\u2019s <\/b><\/h1>\n

A new Ben and Jerry’s is coming to Boston. It will be the Vermont-based ice cream store\u2019s second Boston location. Building permits indicated the project was granted a certificate of occupancy on April 12th, which means construction is now finished and the new store located at 800 Boylston Street should open soon. <\/span><\/p>\n

Former New York Stock Exchange Conversion<\/b><\/h1>\n

The conversion of the former New York Stock exchange building into luxury rental apartments is moving forward. On April 3rd, building permits were issued for a $6 million interior renovation. \u00a0Developer Metro Loft first proposed the project a little over a year ago and it now has the go-ahead from the city. \u00a0Permits indicate that the project will consist of 533 apartments.<\/p>\n

Costco<\/b><\/h1>\n

A new Costco is coming to North Miami. The new Costco will be located in the new $4 billion SoLe Mia development that is near completion. While we might not have picked this project on its own, we loved seeing what it takes to build a Costco. \u00a0The $80 million project has been submitted to the North Miami building department and awaits approval.<\/p>\n
