The nine-bedroom, 9,938 square-foot home was built in 1912, and then redesigned in 1955 by Berkeley’s then-Dean of Architecture Joseph Esherick. Walker Warner Architects drew the designs for the immense pink stucco home sold in 2013 for $9.8M. The complete renovation included a partial foundation replacement, five new bathrooms, and work on a number of living spaces. Architect Olle Lundberg drew ambitious and challenging plans for the complete renovation of a Telegraph Hill home. Its structure was originally built in 1936, and stands on a cliff’s-edge. Van Acker Construction oversaw excavation of the basement and re-anchored the home into the cliffside. Dropping the home six feet allowed the builders to create a functional basement and extend the main floor. The most transformative feature is a four-story, glass-walled staircase that allows natural light to permeate the home. Floating treads and adjacent light-wall make the stairs appear to float in space. The renovation was featured in the May/June 2016 Luxe Interiors + Design and earned several awards, including Remodeling Design Awards and a ASLA-NCC Honor Award.

Contact Van Acker

View Full Profile | 1060 Redwood Hwy Frontage Rd.
