I reached out to Abby and George Construction through an online referral website. When I submitted my inquiry for a quote via email I received an immediate response. Sherri (processing assistant) and Jamila (aka) JB husband of George (name of business) set up a phone call and we had a conversation about the work that needed to get done. As most general contractors do, they ended up subcontracting all of the work. Being unfamiliar with the process of home renovations, I went along with the last minute notifications of different people entering and existing my house even while I was not there; that was until it became a security/safety issue with having different people in and out of my house at all hours of the day including after 11:30pm on one occasion. When I raised this issue Sherri advised me that their subcontractors are working on other houses and are traveling to get to my house. I took that as take what we give you. Now lets get to the work... We had a conversation that certain work would get done, but when it came down to that work getting done (after the bid was agreed), I received a lot of push back and at one point was blatantly lied to and told that they did not agree to said work. This was the start of the issues that arose. Their first subcontractor (yes FIRST) started the work only gut a bathroom start the tile work and ended up doing an awful job re-tiling the shower/walls. That person advised me that they were having issues with Abby and George paying them for materials they purchased and the work that was getting done (not sure if he in turn took that issue out on the work that was getting done in my house), but I brought the issues about the shower up to Abby and George and I was told that they wouldn't not be able to do anything to fix it (initially). Talk about someone fuming. I had to look at this horrific tile work for as long as I lived in this house (my thoughts), well that subcontractor ended up becoming unresponsive and after about a 5 days of him and his helpers not showing up to patch/finish the work I called Abby and George and said something has to be done. They were responsive and came out the next day with a new crew (SECOND Subcontractors)...They immediately got started on fixing the job, and ended up advising Abby and George that they would need to gut the entire shower in order to have it completed the right way. Abby and George was completely against this, but that subcontractor insisted that it would need to be gutted and Abby and George ended up conceding to the changes. Now we are approaching at least 3 weeks into the job (mind I was told it would take 30-60 days) to complete in its entirety. So with this crew I had about 5-6 different people in the house they started the job as early as 8am on some days and as late as 4pm on other days. The issue for me was that it was inconsistent and I never knew who was at the house unless I happened to come home while they were there working only to learn that they only had a couple of hours per day to do a month to two months worth of work. After about 3 weeks of trying to accommodate I advised Abby and George that we needed to have set times working hours 8-430 for the contractors to work in the house with notice. As I went over the work that was getting done I noticed that there were areas that had not been touched or needed to be re-done. When I raised the issue I was advised that those things would be addressed (when? an answer was never provided). The agreement was for me to choose the material on my own, but instead I would show up and find that they purchased and installed (cheap) material without my prior approval. Some of which ended up breaking before I could even use it. When I brought this issue up to them once again I received a lot of push back. When I sent an email often times I did not know who was sending a response because it is a general email that they use and come to find out some days Sherri would respond and other days JB (the wife would respond), but they did not always type their name in the signature box with their response. I later learned that when I received the condescending emails, those came from Sherri, but JB's email were somewhat softer email response. I received text messages from one and emails from the other and then told that I needed to communicate one way all times by Sherri. Although JB (the wife/co-owner of the company) would advise me of one thing in person and when Sherri was informed of the conversation she would respond with that is out of the scope of work and we cannot do that. Although it was work that they had to fix. I can go on with this review, but I will end it with if you have Abby and George do work for you know that you will get a lot of run around they are not straight forward and there will be a lot of inconsistent dialogue and the work may be subpar depending on the aforementioned things.
