Doug Butler, Owner of Butler’s Plumbing has been your Local Plumber since 1981 in the Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, and surrounding areas. Our Plumbers also service Okatie, Callawassie, and Beaufort!
Doug Butler was born and reared in Warner Robins GA, and moved to Hardeeville after graduating high school in 1974. He was very familiar with the area, since he had numerous relatives here in the Low Country. He began working for a plumbing company in Hilton Head.
After several years of working as a plumber, he found that he had a strong desire to open his own plumbing company.
In 1981, Doug went out on his own and started Butler’s Plumbing Service. He purchase a used Toyota truck for $1,000.00, and built homemade wooden boxes to carry his tools in. He worked strictly by himself for several years before finally hiring his first helper. Because he did not own any of the modern equipment, all sewer and water lines were dug and covered with a shovel, concrete was busted with a sledge hammer, and water heaters were carried on your back. His hard working skills and the desire to do the best job possible, caught the attention of local contractors who not only gave him the opportunity to work for them, but began to recommend him to others.
In 1982, he and his wife, Louise were married. Louise worked in the banking industry in the day, and did the book work for the company at night. Doug worked late hours and weekends, and figured blue prints after he came home.
In 1989 they were blessed with the birth of their daughter. At that time Louise gave up her job at the bank and became a full time bookkeeper for the company and a stay at home mom. Working from a home office allowed her to spend time with her daughter while working
By this time the company had grown tremendously and could now afford employees, a shop on the island and all the necessary equipment. Bobcats, trenchers, jackhammers, sewer machines and other equipment allow us to tackle any job.
