I hired Craig for a job in 2020 to finish my basement, His license has only been issued since 2005, so less than half of what he claimed was his work experience. He would only accept cash for payment, and would get very aggressive with me and my family when we would ask “why can’t we give you a check?”, we handed over 3,000 in cash to him in an envelope to get the job started, and with that the following morning I received a text from him telling me that his brother had died and that he would be unable to work for at least 2 weeks, he came back 6 weeks later to start the job, with bloodshot eyes, absolutely hungover, he would only work 3 days a week, and would only work 4 hours each of those days at most. He had trouble going up and down the staircase in my home. The problems don’t end there, 2 weeks in he had placed a wall behind a doorway instead of in front of it and when I pointed this error out he would say “there’s nothing we can do, it’s already there” even thought there were only planks set up and it would have been a hell of a lot easier to move those planks before he put up the rest of the walls and finished it, IN THE WRONG PLACE. Flash forward, 2 months and only getting 30% of the project done I started to ask him if there’s anything he could do quicker and he would tell me he had claimed to have over “30 years in contracting” and that he’s a “very good contractor with a lot of clients with much larger houses than this.” He would use that point whenever I would “nitpick” (his words) flaws in how he was doing the work at my home. At week 9 he brought in his electrician who had recently gotten his house foreclosed on, and was living out of his work van. They charged us 700$ to wire speakers into our drop ceiling, 100$ to fish an Ethernet wire into the basement, which they didn’t even do, they hung up my smart TV without any access to internet, making it useless. Again he would get very upset with me when I would say I don’t have that in cash at my house and would again tell me how cash rich his other clients are, I always told him I prefer to work with legitimate business, that accepts checks. Anyways, they continued to work 4 hour days 3 days a week for another 2 months, more building problems, more inconsistencies, why isn’t the Ethernet hooked up the TV you hung up 2 months ago? Why aren’t the lights working in x or y room? Before we paid him the last 2,800$ in an envelope for him to finish the job. He then went dark for 3 days before telling me he’s had another death in the family, and I haven’t heard from him since then, which was May 2020. I have been robbed by this conman and I genuinely hope that he is brought to justice for this theft and terrible craftsmanship. He has drawn a rift in my family for this terrible work and my family no longer wants to go to anyone else because I’m going to have to spend double my initial budget to get my home to a proper state now because of everything he ruined. Thank you Craig for ruining my home and home life too!
