Our HOA has a contract with Casey's Plumbing to perform the yearly check on the backflow devices. When we noticed one of our backflows was leaking we called Casey's Plumbing. The lady who answered the phone said someone would stop by and take a look. There was no mention of a charge. When he came out a couple of days later they said they could not repair the backflow and recommended McDonough Plumbing. McDonough came out on Feb. 15, 2016 and charged us $315.50 to rebuild and TEST the Irrigation Backflow Preventer. They put a tag on the backflow to indicate that it was tested and good until Feb 2017.
Casey's Plumbing came by and removed the tag put on by McDonough Plumbing and, I guess, tested the irrigation backflow again. They also tested the backflow for the home, which we agree was needed. We have no problem paying for the house backflow inspection, but question why the recheck on the irrigation backflow. When we called Casey's Plumbing about this they said we can pay the $20.00 for each backflow or they would charge us $89.00 for his visit (to tell us they could not fix the backflow). We feel we should only pay the $20.00 for the one backflow that needed to be tested! And we don't appreciate the threat that we should pay up or they would charge us for coming out and telling us they could not repair it. I believe that some companies do charge when they come out and if you have the work done the charge does not apply.
