    Repair

Dave did great job for me. He was on time, on budget and pricing was very reasonable. The work he preformed was repair to the exterior of my home. Some decorative trim work, cedar shingle repair and a waterproofing problem around a door, all fixed, and looking good. He was neat, and cleaned up perfectly. I have owned several pieces of property and have had to work with many contractors over the years and I would have to say Dave was easy to work with and delivered what he promised. I would highly recommend Dave to anyone looking for a skilled and reliable contractor.

Dave recently repaired our broken carriage doors. He was prompt, professional and friendly and finished the job in three days. We were very satisfied with his work and the cost of the project. I would definitely recommend him and would use him for additional projects in the future. Thanks Dave!

    Front Porch (Covered)
    $14,000

I tend to find that most reviews online are either "5 stars" or "1 star" without giving too much useful information on how something really is or how something really went, so here is my attempt at a realistic & useful review for Dave:

We hired Dave for a large project (a covered front porch) and our experience was a very good one. To best describe how things went, here is a breakdown of the pluses & minuses (Pros and Cons) from the project:

    Pluses from the project:
-Dave's responsiveness & communication was exceptional. I cannot overstate this enough; Day or night, he always got back to us, and we talked about the project (usually daily) throughout the whole process. If there was any reason he was unable to be at our house for the day, he would always let us know via text, email, or a phone call. This is rare in a contractor (perhaps inexplicably, but it's true), and Dave is phenomenal in this regard!
-Dave's expertise on design, construction concepts, and materials is excellent. He clearly knows what he is talking about.
-Dave is very professional and keeps good records as well. When the project was finished, we were presented with a folder containing all receipts, invoices, etc. so we could have them for our records.
-We really enjoyed Dave's creativity in the build - he found ways to overcome problems and we bounced ideas off of each other throughout the whole project. He found ways to address our questions or issues, and he even incorporated a few ideas from us as well.
-Dave was very flexible, approachable, and friendly throughout the entire project - many good conversations were had right in our front yard while everything was going on, and he always let us know what the plan was for the day or week, along with any questions he might've had.
-Dave was also very helpful in terms of identifying materials and asking us how we wanted things to come together - we were given all of the options and he helped work through & order/acquire each of them as needed.
-Dave was relentless, too. Even on hot days, days where he wasn't feeling 100%, or days when he did not have anyone else assisting, he still showed up and kept things going.
-Perhaps best of all, Dave did not rest until he was sure we were OK with the work he was doing and how things were going. We're pretty easy-going people (or at least, we try to be), and Dave made sure to double-check and make sure if we needed to speak up we could and he would listen.

    Minuses from the project:
-There was a little misunderstanding at first with how labor & materials costs would be handled/itemized (Dave separated these on his estimate, so there was a bit of confusion on this at first until we got on the same page)
-Our build was understandably difficult in some places, which caused us to have to ask Dave to rework a few areas (which he did without any issue at all - just part of the difficulty of the project)
-Dave needed to do much of the work on this project himself, which while that isn't a bad thing (Dave's attention to detail is great), it did extend the project a bit.
-Unfortunately the cleanup for the project was a little tougher than I originally thought. Given the size of the project, there was a good amount of scrap/cull material left over - some of which I said was OK to keep as usable material for other projects, but there was more unusable scrap than I anticipated (small, unusable pieces, cut pieces, screws & nails), and while Dave organized things neatly and removed some of the materials, in hindsight, the other unusable scrap probably should have been hauled away at the project's end (I probably should have taken better account of what was left over and asked Dave to help with that - I wound up needing to clean this up and dispose of what couldn't be used/kept).

Overall, Dave is a reliable, responsive, and incredibly nice guy who does quality work and genuinely cares about what he does and the customers who he is working with - this is very obvious as soon as you talk & work with him! He also has a flair for making things aesthetically pleasing and finished when he is done, which goes a long way. Dave really does go the extra mile. I think my review would be a full 5 stars if not for a few relatively minor hitches/inconveniences along the way (it's possible this might be expected in a project like ours, but even so, and even if some of it is justified, it's worth mentioning it).

    Most importantly, however:
-Would we work with Dave again? Absolutely!
-Would we recommend him to our friends or others? Definitely, as well.

    Thank you for everything, Dave!

    Build a second floor 16 X 30 Deck

After receiving 5 different contractors quotes to build my 16 X 30 2nd floor deck, the best quote I got was from Dave of D.B. Carpentry, who I hired. I was extremely satisfied by Dave's attention to detail, getting the deck completed on-time, professionalism and his friendly demeanor. I will be using Dave again for my future projects.

I have had Dave come to our house to do 2 projects. He has been fantastic. Easy to get in touch with, reliable, and does an excellent job. We have more work that we will be having him do in the months ahead. He is very reasonably priced and I highly recommend him for your future project needs around your home.

    fascia and soffit repair
    $1,850

I have a 165 year old house that needed a complete soffit and fascia re-build, at the top of the second story. Dave came to look at it and talked with me about the project, and gave me an estimate the next day. I hired him and he did a fantastic job. He worked efficiently but carefully, and respected my very old house. Dave clearly enjoys what he does. He was easily reachable, responsive, and pleasant to work with. It was refreshing to find someone who is invested in not only the work, but how he treats his clients.

12x 16 deck with attached pool deck and slider
    $5,000

I found Dave on Craigslist and was a little apprehensive to the quality of work I might receive. He showed up on time, listen to everything I had to say was very polite and followed up the very next day. Upon hiring Dave, I realize I made a good decision he was very helpful and listen to all my suggestions regarding my new deck he made sure that I was satisfied every step of the way. And though we had a few rain delays, he stepped up to the plate and showed up on the weekend to make sure we stayed on schedule. My deck is beautiful and is exactly what we had wanted and I couldn't have asked for a more dedicated patient and concerned contractor so much so that we hire them to do a second job for us. His prices were very reasonable and he seems to really want to do a good job for you and it shows in his workmanship.

    random stuff around house

Dave and another carpenter fixed doors in our house, replaced trim, sanded and restained our bay window, and a whole variety of other stuff that I've been meaning to do but if I did it myself I'd bungle. He came out promptly, pricing was very reasonable, and was super easy to work with. The work was done in less that 2 days. I'd definitely use DB Carpentry in the future.

I had Dave build a tree house for my kids. He did such a wonderful job. He basically built exactly what I designed in my head and tried to scribble on paper. He was easy to talk to and very flexible. He worked non stop and was very efficient. I highly recommend David. I'm so happy with our tree house!

I bought a Summer home in RI and it needed various repairs including a deck surrounding a new 6-person Jaccuzzi and I asked some neighbors for a good carpenter to do the work. They referred me to D.B. Carpentry and hired them. I found their prices extremely reasonable and their work of high quality. Yes, I would hire them again.
