Whole home (interior) remodel (except Master Bath)
    $350,000

My experience mirrors that reported by Dennis N. but only worse. David Berkey failed to get the permits required for my job. When the City of La Quinta red tagged the project, he quit after the project was stalled for 5 months with nothing happening. My house was completely torn apart, I still didn't have the permits needed to continue, and he didn't care. I lived in the house all throughout construction, and that was just a nightmare. Here it is over 14 months sonce the project started and I'm just finally getting to the end. I was without a kitchen for almost 10 months, since he gutted it (again without getting permits) and got caught by the city. All the work he did has had to be redone. The electrical was a mess and not to code. while he had the specs for all my appliances, he clearly didn't read them because he put in 110v lines when they all needed 220v (which required a subpanel). Everything he did had to be ripped out and redone because not only was the voltage wrong, but nothing was to code. He cut a 3.5' w x 6' long trench through my kitchen to vent a downdraft in the kitchen island (which ended up being completely unnecessary, way oversized, and which didn't even vent to the outside of the house). We had to reinforce the floor with rebar before filling it in because it was so big that it affected the foundation of my house!
He didn't prepare the floors properly for my new LVP floors, so they had to be removed and redone. Paint colors/sheens were all mismatched. He didn't prime or properly prep walls before painting and his paint job was amaturish at best. So all paint throughout the house had to be redone. His framing was crooked, and a new 4 ft wide support wall he put in looks like it's pregnant it bulges so much. The plumbing his sub did wasn't to code and had to be fixed. He re-routed water, electrical, and venting for my washer and dryer in the laundry room, but didn't leave and access to clean the dryer vents (safety hazard). The window he moved in the bathroom (without my approval or knowledge until after he did it) wasn't sealed or placed correctly. So I had to have it removed and a new window installed (and then the bathroom tile repaired as a result). The sliding glass doors he installed weren't sealed or installed properly. I had to hire someone else to fix that. He didn't get change orders approved or verify costs on projects before doing them and then submitted huge additional bills. His quotes didn’t include everything, but he didn’t specify what's was and was not included, and what he said it included changed over time. He doesn't properly supervise his workers or subs and has workers doing things (like electrical wiring) for which they are not trained or licensed. Don't fall for Dave's charm. I paid the man almost $170,000 and he left my house in shambles. He didn't complete one project, didn't buy the products I specified (he charged me for them, but replaced them with inferior quality products), he didn't understand basic lighting design issues - such as use lights with gimbals or specialized lights on sloped sealings so you don't get blinded (i had to replace 20 lights in the Living room that cost thousands originally and then thousands more to replace with suitable lights), and lied about what he had and hadn't done. His workmanship is poor, he is unreliable, he doesn't meet timelines, he doesn't stick to budget, and his communication about additional costs for changes is non existent. I've waited a very long time to write this review and really struggled about whether or not to do it. But people need to know that D.R.B. Construction (David Rock Berkey) is no good. I got taken advantage of and made to suffer for over a year. I don't want anyone else to go through what I did. If you're thinking about using this company, insist that you speak with at least 3 recent clients where he did big jobs. I would be shocked if he could produce 3 happy clients.

    Kitchen remodel
    $240,000

Friendly, known owner for over 10 years, but on my kitchen remodel poor project supervision of workers and subs. Almost every aspect of our kitchen remodel had to be redone. Including remaking of cabinets several times, removal and reinstallation of the new hardwood floor, mismatched painting, use of materials that did not meet specs, failure to get written change orders and general poor workmanship. Walls were built in wrong place, framing done incorrectly - all having to be corrected one or more times.
    Can not recommend DRB Construction.
