Warning! Do not use this contractor. I wish that I would have gotten this warning before I decided to hire them.
I could probably write a book on my horrible experience with George and his foreman Jeff.
I talked to 7 other neighbors and they all experience the same regret and we all had these issues in common:Jeff will draw up a beautiful plan at an unbelievable price and promise to finish in less than 2 months.
He will want to start up right away and even offer discounts as incentive.
He will begin with a full crew buying and bringing as much material as he can afford and it will remain piled up on your property for months.
He will ask for payment after each of the items are brought to the property as if the task were completed.
The project will seem as if it is going along as scheduled for the first 4 weeks, however if you look closely you will notice that he hasn't actually completed any of the tasks, only just started them.
At that point, he has pretty much ran out of money, so he will offer suggestions to add plants or other items that might enhance the look, but will way overcharge. That may buy you 1 more week of work.
After that the workers will slim down to just 1 guy for a couple of hours each week.
Excuses will pile up and you will start to get suspicious.
You will notice huge piles of garbage throughout your yard. Garbage from other projects, trash from their lunches and even urine bottles scattered throughout your yard.
Attempts to get answers and more work done will be answered with fake apologies and endless lies. He will tell you he is working on your neighbor's yard and tell him he is working on your yard.
This will continue for several months. You will have to call him every day and even still, you will get almost no work done.
Finally after your will has been broken, you will ask Jeff 'What can I do to motivate you to finish my yard'. He will replay, 'I got screwed because I had some bad workers and another job used legal loopholes to make expensive changes to their plans and now I am broke. The only way I can continue with your property is if you pay for material and my employees' wages week by week until we are done.'
You options at that point are to either agree to pay them or find another contractor and pay possibly 2-3 times as much.
He will give you a lowball estimate of what he thinks it will take to cover the rest.
From then you will get 2 guys for maybe 3 days a week. Included in the labor fees are travel time to hardware stores and loading plants in his truck, which could require 2 or more workers.I eventually fired Jeff when he charged me over $1000 for a week's worth of work and he basically just delivered 4 small fruit trees and 10 small plants, but spent 3 days with 2 guys supposedly driving to different nurseries.
In the end, I paid 150% of his quoted value. He completed about 85% of the work. His last day was 9 months after we started. After talking to 7 different neighbors, we all exchanged stories and everyone had almost the exact same story.
Don't be a victim to their Ponzi scheme. After contacting George to let him know how unhappy we were with his service, he offers to "make it right".
Saying he can provide labor to finish whatever hasn't been completed. However, when I called his bluff, he merely gave me 1 yard of mulch worth about $17.50 and does not offer any labor at all. When I told him I will need 2 more, he then told me I would have to pay for it; and he then had the nerve to ask for $30 gas money as well. He then texted me implying that I should be grateful for his help.
So: "Thank you George for letting me pay for dirt and letting me do the labor that I had already paid you for. I keep forgetting that you are the victim here." -
