In 1994 Bobby LaMotte found himself without a job, having long worked with his father & his company, Eagle Contracting of Oak Ridge. The partners made a decision to retire and the doors were subsequently closed. Bobby found work right away working with a woman running a "Handyman Service". She gave him the client names & he did the job. The problem was Bobby didn't share her ethics. It was then, his wife Edna suggested that they should go into business for themselves. She knew Bobby had all the right stuff for success. He had integrity, character, skills, & what he would need most, determination. You see, Bobby is the type of man that, upon running into a wall that he can't go around, he knocks it down!
Edna had the business background and would do the books, he would run the field. Johnnie, Edna's mother and retired accountant, agreed to help. They needed a name for their new company. Edna came up with Handy, Johnnie said Helper, and Handy Helper was born. The paperwork was completed & filed, forms printed, license's obtained and they made the deadline for having the company name & phone number added to the Yellow Pages by only 2 days.
Three long days after the Yellow Page book was distributed, we received our first call, Mr. Simmerman, a Professional Chef. The second was Mrs. Adams. Since then, the phones haven't stopped ringing. We proudly call each of those callers "clients" to this day!
"Word of Mouth" advertising is the mainstay of our Company and always will be!
We love what we do here, and 2014 is bringing some exciting changes to Handy Helper. While keeping our little company relevant with our new website, we've also made it easier for you to do business with us! We are looking forward to better communication with everyone and offering more services. Our customers are the best and we don't need some expensive consumer survey to know that.
