I observed Jed Sprinkle smoke Crystal Meth while raging at workers and exhibiting illusions of grandeur and infallibility. His work was haphazard, did not meet code requirements, and did not meet budget. His jobsite management consisted of constant expression of an obviously hubristic veiw of himself and regular shouting demeaning, blame shifting obscenities and other nonsense at workers. This crass, law-scoffing drug addict is not the best bang for your money unless you don't mind some serious negative impacts on your life.

We were so excited when we found Jed, recommended by a friend. He did a fantastic job leveling our home, for what seemed like a really great price. So we hired him to screen in our deck and extend the roof, a long overdue project. He quoted us a daily rate and then estimated that it would take a day and a half. We knew it would have to take longer, but weren't expecting it to stretch out to almost two weeks, largely because he kept not being able to come back and finish for one reason or another. He did do some extra leveling of the deck, but ended up being there for 4 and a half days, and only one day was actually there for a full day's work. He charged us for SIX days of labor. He also took cash to buy materials and receipts did not fully add up to the amount he took, but he offered no change or explanation. He scratched up my nice patio table, using it to throw tools, nails and screws on. My deck furniture ended up sitting out in the rain because I didn't expect it to be out there for almost two weeks (and would have put it somewhere covered if I had.) One day (that I generously counted as a half day of work) he was yelling at his helper until even I was uncomfortable and thankfully, he just took the guy home. But he was barely here and didn't get anything done that day, either. We are upset that he overcharged us and we trustingly paid what he asked, thinking we'd get an itemized bill that we could discuss and apply the extra to future projects.
But when we started looking at the work he'd done, we realized we didn't want him to do any more work for us. The doors aren't square, the screen sticks out where it should be trimmed, he used old wood that he brought from his house. (That he kept telling us he generously didn't charge us for, but we wanted to buy all new materials.) The one little customization that we wanted was a cat door installed, and he did it in such a way that it can't be properly secured. He also didn't completely screen everything in! There were big gaps at the top where wasps were still flying in!
Jed came back to fix some of the issues, and we were really hoping to get things worked out. But the work he did when he came back was really shoddy. He added the "cattle fence" to match the rest of the porch, but didn't cut it well and instead of shaving some off the end, gouged holes in the wood to make it fit. And he wedged the cat door in so tight that the frame is twisted and the door sticks. When asked about the discrepency in the charges, he explained that he arbitrarily changed his rate from what he initially told us. Finally, after a big storm, we discovered the roofing that he did leaks in two places.
