I attempted to use the CA Earthquake Authority list of contractors to hire a contractor. Most didn't want to talk to me. One wanted to know if I'd be willing to pay an amount over three times the amount it eventually cost me to do the work. This was Lcolumna's first CEA grant related project. He obtained the necessary certification, arranged all of the engineering drawings, permits and inspections to my satisfaction.

The prices are fair and justified for what you get in return and I would certainly recommend them to anybody that's looking to remodel anything on their home or property. The job was to voluntarily seismically retrofit my home to conform with current building codes. Lcolumna responded to my request for quotes with the most reasonable price based on our understanding of the work to be performed. He was not registered with CEA, but did become certified quickly. He provided the building upgrade plans and obtained the building permits and inspections. Other contractors on the CEA APPROVED LIST either refused to provide an estimate or were outrageously expensive. This was his first CEA retrofit job and I can only imagine he’ll work out the small kinks and be very impressive on the next one. The city did approve his work and as a registered civil engineer, I thought it looked good too.
