At Plekkenpol Builders, Inc. we specialize in residential remodeling projects that are as functional as they are beautiful. Since the company’s inception in 1970, Plekkenpol Builders has grown from a one-person operation to one of the Twin Cities premiere Design-Build Remodelers.
Starting a remodeling company was somewhat of an accident for President and founder, Craig Plekkenpol. He was working summers for a contractor and when the contractor retired, he began referring clients to Craig. In the early 1970s, Craig was the estimator, salesman, bookkeeper, carpenter and laborer working out of a makeshift office in a walk-in closet at home. By 1973, Craig had recruited his wife Judy to do the company’s accounting and soon after began hiring the firm’s first carpenters and laborers.
The company grew steadily and in 1976 Craig and Judy remodeled a bedroom in their basement into the company office. Their family garage was relegated to supply storage. By 1981 it was evident that additional space was required for client meetings, tools, supplies and a cut shop. The company moved to an office and warehouse space on 107th and Lyndale where we hired our first project manager, production supervisor and draftsman.
In 1984 we acquired a building with its own shop and yard at 8609 Harriet that fit our growing needs. In 1996, with five project managers, five production supervisors, three full time office staff and a couple dozen carpenters and laborers, the building was overflowing. This growth initiated the move to our present location.
You can easily spot our office on the south frontage road of 494 between Portland and Nicollet. We proudly employ a highly qualified and experienced team of project managers, production supervisors, carpenters, a draftsperson, tile installer, drywall installer, painter, laborers, truck drivers and office support staff.
Our philosophy of exceptional customer service, respect and trust along with our unbroken history, continued growth, strong involvement with community and industry associations have allowed Plekkenpol Builders to become a driving force in the Twin Cities remodeling industry.
