I got screwed by Preferred Home Builders. I had a signed contract with them and bought all the (thousands of dollars of flooring, tile, lights, fans, showers, baths, etc) materials for my project specific to their request and coordinated all this with them - even had some stuff expedited. 2 weeks after they were supposed to begin (with nearly no communication during those two weeks) I receive a call from them saying they're dropping out of the project due to it not being profitable for them.

Meanwhile I'm here with thousands of dollars in materials I bought that they specified and preferred for their installation unable to return it and completely screwed by this company. Absolute waste of time and money. A mistake Preferred Home Builders made that they're choosing to make me pay for, instead of owning up to it. Absolutely blows my mind they feel okay about doing this.

Also, if anybody has any legal advice for my situation, definitely happy to hear about that too.

    Remodel
    $125,000

Where do I start... Our family's process with this company has definitely seen its ups and downs, as well as various Project Managers and crew members.
With the various crew members and foreman, our car was hit, nails in our tires, missing purchased items and now almost a year later to find the level of work as seen in their portfolio not completed in our duplex.
After relocating to Los Angeles, I found this company and level of work to be of interest and a acceptable standard. Although I believe that they are in fact capable of such pristine work, I believe that our project over $100k was mismanaged and completed improperly.
Aside from the above issues, here we are now:
    1. The tile in the shower was done in two different grout colors, and redone in the middle. Now the colors are wearing and showing to various grout colors.
    2. The ceiling in the bathroom on the wall that was replaced is now separating.
    3. The baseboards were not properly done and nor was the back wall behind the toilet painted, you can also see that with the window frame.
    4. The baseboards as well as some of the walls were not primed. This is noticeable in the kitchen and living room. Ironically the only pictures evidencing primer are in areas not peeling.
    4. The kitchen cabinets were suppose to be removed sanded and primed, as you can see this was not done.
    5. Separating grout with kitchen counter tops

In July, I contacted the business and was able to speak with the owners son Eli. He informed me that the warranty of their work will demand they come back out and fix everything. The rep Moti that we met with came out with their carpenter and before we knew it we had not been offered the opportunity to fix anything, but was quoted for replacement of baseboards and kitchen cabinets. During this visit, the carpenter himself said that no cabinets were sanded and primed correctly and that the water based paint had begun to peel against the prior oil paint on all the walls and cabinets. Before I knew it he was asked to leave before taking measurements.
After we put down a deposit for this new estimate, my husband contacted the rep and asked that before we invest anymore, that the level of work and standard be brought up to speed with what was originally paid for. At that point he informed us of a potential COVID outbreak in their office and apologized for the lack of notice and/or communication prior to coming to our home. As witnessed on our ring camera, the rep disputed the error, spoke to the office and left.
After the interaction, I contacted Eli and he put his father on the phone. With no solution, he discussed with the rep while I was on speaker and told me that sometimes houses peel and became very aggressive. After explaining that we were truly unhappy and would be left no other choice to have another professional come in to assess and potentially take it to court, he informed me that they didn't want to work with us or have us as clients, and that we could take them to the nearest court to further settle.
During this time with everything going on in the world, customer service and value is of the upmost importance. As I see that there clientele is diverse, I do hope that we in fact were not disregarded or treated with any difference due to any other factors.

I can understand that now your company will lose money to come out and fix/correct these issues, but was it too much to ask that our home look like the many other homes included within your portfolio.
I just want a home that is not peeling and is in the condition that is acceptable.
I guess after the economy adjusts and my husband have additional funds, we will have to have these items fixed. Thank you for returning the deposit, I just really would have hope that the trust and value we put into your company was reciprocated and input into your efforts to complete our home.
With everything going on and now having to sit in my house During lockdown, there is nothing more infuriating than to see your money go to waste.

    Patio
    $45,000

We just completed our second project with Preferred Home Builders, a new backyard patio, and we are thrilled with the results. We wanted to create a living space that could be utilized year-round and this new patio really fits the bill. The workmanship of the framing team led by Alex was first rate and all of the work by the electricians, painters, and other professionals involved were excellent. They cleaned up after each work day and left the place in great shape when the job was finished. Michelle was again our project manager and kept us informed of the work to be completed each day. If you want the work done right and within city code then this is the company you should hire.

2 bathroom remodels and interior and exterior painting

I used Preferred on 2 bathroom remodels and extensive interior and exterior painting. Its project managers, Itay and Michelle, managed the project so that it was completed on time and within budget. It’s crews were excellent and the quality of the work is great.

    Kitchen Remodel
    $44,000

We met with three contractors before starting our kitchen renovation. All were professional and well-reviewed, but Ran was the only person to create a 3D digital rendering on his computer during our first meeting. He was full of good ideas to make the most of our small space while being mindful of our budget. We loved his design and immediately felt that he understood our needs and, frankly, knew better than us what we needed!

Shortly after we signed the contract, my husband decided to completely peace out on the project--insert exploding brain emoji here. I've never been a Pinterest & HGTV kind of girl, and I didn't have visions of my dream kitchen dancing in my head. I had no idea what I was doing or where to begin, regarding aesthetics or practicalities. I didn't know the first thing about flooring (vinyl, tile, laminate?), backsplash (what's a schluter?), etc.

Lucky for me, Ran and Daisy made the whole process as smooth as possible. They were patient with my myriad of beginner questions, and always very responsive. Additionally, all the guys who came to work on the house were respectful and did great work. We have a tiny house--the kitchen leads right into our small living room, and having people in the kitchen all day could easily have been a very stressful experience, but it worked out just fine. We even went on vacation in the middle of renovations, and the project continued--Ran and the workers were great and made sure the house was secured.

The entire project was finished on time, with a week to spare, and on budget. Now I have my dream kitchen that I didn't even know I wanted or needed! It is so much more functional than our previous space; I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and I didn't realize what a big difference the upgrade in functionality would make for me. It's also so pretty that it brightens my mood every time I walk in!

I will always recommend Preferred Home Builders, and wouldn't hesitate to use them again for other projects.

    Kitchen

Working with Preferred Home Builders was a great decision and experience. We have been thinking about remodeling our kitchen for a few years now but have been hesitant as we wanted to save and do it exactly how we wanted instead of doing it with a different contractor at a lower price. We reached out to Preferred about 3 years ago, but we were not ready and did not feel comfortable spending yet. 3 years later we met with Tamir again and he came up with an even better vision for our kitchen. Tamir and Alex (our coordinator) were dedicated to our project. Throughout the entire process Tamir and Alex made it clear that their goal was for us to be happy not only with the final product, but with the process itself. Waiting a few years for this project made it that much better and we couldn’t be happier.

    kitchen remodel

This review is long overdue, we remodeled our kitchen and I can not express how happy we are with our decision to go with Preferred. Although Preferred was more expensive than the other bids we received, we realized that the price was worth the smooth and stress free process. I have heard so many stories of bad contractors and poor craftsmanship and we were not willing to go through a difficult time. The entire time we felt taken care of by Tamir and Alex. Tamir is the one who designed our kitchen and sat with us for many hours on every little detail. Alex was our project coordinator who worked directly with us and Tamir from start to finish. The crew was always on time, considerate, and clean which we really appreciated. Thank you Preferred for allowing us to enjoy our kitchen without any bumps along the way.

    Kitchen Remodel
    $120,000

We have just started a kitchen remodel with PHB. From the first meeting, PHB has been reliable, responsive, on time and hard working. PHB also is removing a wall between our kitchen and family room and updating our plumbing to remove all plumbing from the slab-- we had a slab leak and never want to worry about that again. We have special time constraints, and PHB has understood and respected our needs, planning a remodel that fits our schedule. We particularly like that they express their design recommendations, really listened to our ideas, answered all our questions, and collaborated on a kitchen design. In the 2 weeks since the project started, the workers are friendly, hard working, and they clean up every day. We have the same crew of workers every day, so we get to know and trust them. PHB does not bring in random day workers, as we have experienced with other contractors. We are excited for the project and will update once it is completed.

So it's been a couple of months now and my bathroom was completed a couple of weeks ago. It looks absolutely amazing! The hold up was in dealing with the inspectors for the City of Gardena. They lost an inspector and apparently only have one for the entire city. Waiting time was up to two weeks before the next phase of work could begin. Yes it was very inconvenient and the city was pretty uncooperative, but Alex in Preferred's offices kept me informed about what was going on and was in contact with the city to see if it was possible to speed things up. It wasn't. After some going back and forth with the City, and purchasing more tile, the job was back on track and eventually the City got another inspector. I'm not too upset about the delays because it actually gave me time to find the perfect items for my bathroom. Nadav also continued to check in on me from time to time to ensure that I was satisfied with the process. In the end, my husband and I are very pleased with the finished product. I just hope and pray that none of you need to deal with the inspectors for the City of Gardena!

    bathrooms and kitchen remodels
    $52,000

Preferred Home Builders have been fantastic to work with! The entire crew has been very professional, prompt and are great communicators.  Superb service, price and quality. Our home is in Simi Valley and we are 1 week into our remodel.
Itay is managing our remodel of both bathrooms and kitchen and we are so pleased with his level of professionalism and knowledge.  He's an honest and sincere individual who helps us feel comfortable and well-informed throughout the process so we don't have to worry about anything.
Michelle is coordinating our job and has been outstanding in relaying updates and schedules.  We always know what the next steps are and when they are coming up and who is arriving for work that day.
Luis, the foreman, and the others on his crew (Luis and Marvin) have been highly-efficient, through, professional and great to work with.  They prepared the areas to protect the floors and contain the demo debris and leave each evening with the house in a surprisingly clean state.
We are EXTREMELY pleased with every aspect of this company's performance so far and highly recommend them for future projects.

    master bathroom remodel

I just moved into a new home that needed to be updated. I was recommended by a friend of mine who is at the final stages of her kitchen remodel to give Tamir a call. After seeing her project and doing some research I gave Preferred a call and scheduled my free estimate. Tamir came out and started to measure and design my master bathroom. After a few meetings I decided to hire Preferred and am looking forward to tackle different areas of the house over time!

    bathroom remodel
    $25,000

I took my time researching and vetting contractors before I was ready to hire. Preferred stood out from the beginning and I felt very comfortable with Tom’s friendly and open personality. After our first meeting he took me to a few of his previous customers and they all shared their experiences and opened their homes to me. I thought this was amazing as I was able to see some of his work and hear experiences and expectations from other customers. Although my job is on a much smaller scale than most of his projects and the jobs I visited, he made me feel just as important. I am now 2 weeks in to my bathroom remodel and we are expected to be done within the next week or so. Up to this point everything has been going smoothly and I look forward to updating this review once my bathroom is complete.

    Kitchen Remodel
    $50,000

I hired Preferred Home Builders after receiving multiple bids for different companies. Preferred was one of the higher bids, however I feel that it was worth the money! My project manager was professional, caring, and responsive. The process was very simple we had 2 long meetings where I sat with Tom, the owner of the company. He explained the entire process thoroughly and created a 3-D before and after design of my home. I was able to see what the final product would be before we even started. After the 2 meetings we set a start date and end date which was spot on. Overall I had a great experience and I was very pleased with their craftsmanship, professionalism, and dedication.

    Stay Away!!

My kitchen and bathroom remodel were handled by Preferred in 2008. It took quite a while to get them to finish the job, going over the estimated finish date.
The kitchen: the cabinet finish is sub standard. It's wearing 'up'. I see the actual wood at the bottom of every cupboard. They use sub contractors and hired some pretty ill natured people, too. The cabinet guy didn't want to do his job and he felt our home was too far away for him. Too many issues to list during the remodel and still having problems. I would not recommend, stay away from this company.
