I had been in the painting trade since the mid-1960's. While in college, I worked for
a paint manufacturer in Milwaukee, in a quality control lab. Upon moving to South Florida, I moved my Painter's Union card into the Miami Painter's Union. At that time, union contractors were in need of experienced paperhangers.

Many of the Art Deco hotels on Miami Beach were being updated to handle the influx of young people moving to Miami Beach. After working for a contractor for many years, I had been encouraged by quite a few people to go out on my own. Again, the Painter's Union was helpful in assisting me to make the transition from worker to an owner/worker business.

One of the main reasons for going into business was having the freedom to work for those for whom you wanted to build a long time working relationship with. I saw a place for a hard working, fair, honest and reliable contractor. I incorporated in 1985 and signed a collective bargaining agreement with the Painter's Union and acquired a license to contract in South Florida.

I preferred to do commercial painting and paperhanging. Even at that time, unlicensed contractors had, for the most part, taken over the occupied residential market. I've met many, many wonderful people along the way. I had long-term contracts with a
the large restaurant chain, a big box truck rental company, several high rise office buildings and a large warehouse/office leasing company.

My only regret was that in the late 80's workman compensation rates started a steep climb, and continue unabated as of this writing. I found myself having to do all of my work alone, as I found I could not compete with the unlicensed contractors. I retired a few years ago so I could enjoy the fruits of my many years of hard work.
