I am sad to have to write this review of Smart Choice Remodeling Inc. I do like the individuals as people, they are good people that try. Some of their skills are far above average. But, here is where it falls down. Smart Choice is a small remodeling company. The main contractor, his lead man, and two helpers, showed up to my remodel, daily. The foreman, and one of the trainees, did as good a job as expected. The problems developed when one trainee was allowed to do things, that were out of site and control from supervision. Poor practices in connecting the drain of a new bathtub, not having the proper material, and then doing a halfway job, that leaked and not saying anything. Connecting two circuits together, creating a 240 volt line, that fried my microwave, wash machine, and garage door opener, that was on that circuit. And, now I have had to call in a Viking repair service to see if the dishwasher, which has never ran a load, is fried, too. The company is making the electrical, plumbing, and appliances, whole, and I commend them for their honesty. But, this should have not happened in the first place. Maybe, my choice of Viking was too odd for them, and a simple call to an experienced Viking installer/service person would have saved some of the trouble. And not letting a trainee play with electric wires would have made my life much easier. So, for simple remodel, fine, you will get a great job, for the most part. Complex older homes, that need special attention. Be sure to have an eye on who is doing what work.
