Founded in Hendersonville in 1936, Southern Alarm & Security is a family-owned security company serving residential and commercial clients across Western North Carolina. The business was established by Thomas D. Clark and has remained local for more than nine decades. Ownership transitioned to Steve and Sharon Johnson, who continue to lead the company alongside their family. Southern Alarm & Security offers security system installation, monitoring, and alarm services, drawing on the expertise built through longstanding operations and a series of acquisitions—including Appalachian Security in Franklin, WNC Security in Brevard, ComTek in Asheville, Alltek Security of Asheville, and Sounds Good Electronic in Andrews. The company holds certification by Underwriter’s Laboratories for security system installations, a distinction unique among security firms in the region. Service extends as far as Raleigh, Columbia, Athens, and Johnson City, as well as the resort and retirement communities of the Western North Carolina mountains.
