    Design and build home
    $650,000

    We contracted with the The Kirouac Group to do a custom design and build for us in Fernandina Beach, FL. In hindsight the lies and misrepresentation started from the beginning. Some of the problem is that we did not do enough due diligence before hiring Shawn.

    The issues came to a head when he took money from us with lies about need to make down payments for windows and doors due to an upgrade change order we requested. In all, he collected $50,000 from us that never went to our subcontractors. The reality was Shawn also had 10% upfront money from the construction loan. We have no idea where all this money went, but we do know he had at least 4 other projects going, and his own house build happening. He also had a lean on his under construction home from the golf club community he was a member of. He was also involved in a lawsuit over a prior build where is was being accused of over billing. To string us along he told us crazy stories about the Anderson Window rep being out of the country dealing with a death, etc, and that is why the windows and doors were not ordered. This went on for over a month. We ending up paying our subs out of our own pocket, outside of the construction draw funds, to keep the build moving, because no one would work with him without being paid upfront in full. He had to be threatened with a law suit by a major construction materials supplier for $50,000 over unpaid bills on our property. We had to intervene and chase Shawn for weeks to get it paid. We though that we might end up in foreclosure with a house that was only at the framing stage in after 8 months of construction, with almost 50% of the draw money paid to Shawn.

    He of course could not be found to serve a physical copy of our termination letter to. He closed his Fernandina office in the middle of our build and moved his business to Jacksonville. He ended up closing that office too at the same time as we finally sent the termination letter.

    His wife is a local banker at Regions on Sadler, the bank that Shawn guided us to use for the construction loan, by the way. They both continue doing business locally, and live here in Fernandina Beach.

    Many local homeowners and subs we run into now have horror stories about Shawn Kirouac. Don't believe the 5 star review in Houzz by his wife (under her maiden name.)

    Don't be fooled by his company name appearing in the April 2021 addition of Amelia Islander: https://issuu.com/ameliaislander/docs/ai0421. We can only assume that the the home featured was built years ago when he was able to get subs to work with him.

    If you want this guy Shawn to steal your money and never complete his work... go ahead and hire him. Stay away from this devil!! he will take your money with no remorse!
