In the summer of 2010, we hired A Top Notch Contractor, Mike Lape to be specific, to coat our deck with a product called Gaco Shield from Tuff Decks that had a 50-year unlimited warranty on it. It was sanded and coated by Mike Lape and within 3 years it started peeling. We started calling and reporting this to Mike Lape and he kept telling us he would repair it. He put us off for over a year and a half and finally September 20, 2015, he came to recoat the deck. He did not sand it and we questioned him on this and he told us the new product would stick to the old product and we wouldn't have any more problems. Mike Lape recoated our deck AND then charged us another $2200 which we promptly paid even thought we felt it should be done at no charge due to a defective product and/or application. On March 2, 2016, I contacted him to let him know our deck was peeling again and this time worse than last time. His exact reply to me was "no worries I'll fix it up when it warms up". We have contacted him numerous times and he tells us he will come fix it no problem but he doesn't show up and his last response was "I can get you the product and instructions if you want to have someone else apply it". Our reply to this was "absolutely not unless you want to refund our $2200 so we can pay someone else to do the job properly." We haven't heard from him since. This contractor is not honest and DOES NOT stand behind his work or his word. We would recommend no one ever use this contractor for anything and if you do BUYER BEWARE.
