The BuildZoom Score is our measure of how well a contractor runs their business, based on the information we have. Your score will go up and down as we get new information about you.

The BuildZoom Score impacts your business in two places:

- Externally, potential clients will see your score when they research contractors for their projects. BuildZoom is a neutral reference that property owners use to inform their decisions.
- Internally, BuildZoom uses the score to rank contractors and set our “batting order” when helping our vetted clients find builders.
How is my BuildZoom Score calculated?
Our score is based on the information we have available. We look at three main sources of information on your business.
First, is your general business information. This includes your license status and permit history, and also the biographical information on your profile.
Second is customer feedback on your business, specifically reviews they’ve left on your profile.
Finally we consider your performance in the BuildZoom marketplace. We look at your responsiveness to clients and how often you get hired with satisfied customers.
An important note is that recent activity counts more than older activity. If we know you’ve done a lot of great work this year and last year, that tells us a lot more about you than if we know you did great work 4-5 years ago.
How do you calculate my response, bid, and hire rates?
The BuildZoom Score factors in your activity on the BuildZoom platform. We primarily look at 4 areas: response rate, bid rate, hire rate, and customer feedback. These rates are based on the number of projects you opt into, so remember to only opt into projects that interest you.
- Responsiveness: Be persistent in reaching out to and following up with clients. Our top contractors reach out right away when they’re interested in pursuing a project - while we qualify all the leads we send you, you still have to do the leg work in chasing down clients.
- Bid rate: We compare the number of bids you’ve submitted to the number of projects you’ve opted into. Don’t worry - we only count projects where the client has responded to you. Submit bids on BuildZoom and we’ll put in extra effort to help you get hired. The more bids you submit, the higher your score. No longer interested? Let us know by archiving the lead.
- Hire rate: We want our contractors to win big and win often, but we know every business is different. That’s why we calculate your hire rate based on the dollar value of the projects that we send. If a $20k project is a big win for your business, that’s great! Your hire rate - and BZ Score - will reflect that. If a $20k project is small for your business, it will barely affect your hire rate. We want to set you up for success. Once we know your hire rate, we’ll focus on sending you projects in the budget range that you’re best at closing. We also believe that the best contractors get hired frequently and consistently. If you stop getting hired, your BZ Score will go down over time.
- Customer feedback: To meet BuildZoom standards, contractors are expected to be professional, courteous, and overall excellent at making clients happy, based on reviews and internal feedback. Reviews on BuildZoom are the most important, so ask the clients we send you to leave reviews on your profile. Reviews on Yelp and BBB will carry some weight as well.
