At first it went very well. The owner was very responsive, personable, and punctual. He came extremely early despite how last minute I had scheduled with him. He initially asked to be paid up front. That should have been my first warning. All contractors and plumbers that i have worked with asked to be paid when the job is done. However, I proceeded with him. He came and did some work and left. I thought the leak was solved but the leak continued about a week later, that was when things started to go downhill.
He initially was reasonable and was willing to fix the problem if it was due to his negligence or negotiate a price if it was just simply a matter of needing to do more work. He showed up pretty quickly at first, but he did no real work and no lasting progress was made, he began to not respond to my calls and texts. When he did, he would agree to send someone over again. Yet, this person time after time would not show up and not even let me know. I would have to call him.
He finally got so bad at getting back to me that I began to use his employee as my main contact for discussing and scheduling business. However, even though his employee would at least speak to me, he continued the process of not showing up.
I finally gave up on him and his employee and hired a plumber recommended by a good friend. This plumber discovered that Barak had done the job poorly and that this had caused a new leak. The new leak combined with the original one increased the water damage to ceiling causing that panel to completely collapse.
Needless to say, I simply asked my money -$450- back after rationally and calmly describing the details and expressing my frustrations over all. I received only one response from the owner Barak: a text with only a "?". His employee was much more understanding and professional but as the employee there wasn't too much he could do.
So, now I find myself going to see the magistrate this December to get my money back.
I have learned my lesson the hard and painful way. Do not hire someone like Barak that is all talk and no action. I would pay $300 more than I did in a heartbeat if it meant avoiding all of the stress and drama of failed promises, property damage, and trying to get my money back. I will only hire people in the future who are backed by solid facts and the experiences of people I trust.
