My experience with Best Value Home Improvement was a nightmare. They do not manage the people they send out; communication is lost when the project manager is not managing-until I call with a problem;the contractor argues with you when their people screw up (the contractor never comes to the sight); and once they get your money; the project manager (salesman) doesn't even return to the sight for a final inspection. You are basically the project manager; babysitting and catching errors-with little support. The price of the project doubled; the roofer that did the flat roof the first time; just laid felt insulation and gravel over the original roof- He was supposed to take care of the leak; replace and insulate with rigid insulation-after letting the roof dry out. Said he could remove most of the water-which he never did/finally acknowledged. I had an independant inspector look at it after and he said the roofer had not repaired the leak. The contractor/ owner assured me it was taken care of/ wouldn't leak/ did not want to reopen roof/ remedy the problem. They finally brought out another roofer after inspection who also noted the leak in the corner was not fixed/was still water under the roof and offered to redo it/ slope it correctly, and replace shingles around window for an additional $2k. He opened the roof up and the felt insulation was soaking wet and he had to pull off two roofs; as the first guy had just put down felt over the old roof. The second roofer took care of the leak and rigid insulation-after I caught him putting in fiberglass insulation; but sloped the the roof 4 different ways- with an upslope to the drain and troughs around the skylights that resulted in large pools of standing water. Said he couldn't do anything about it and never returned after payment. He also eventually repaired the hole in the ceiling and popped out lights before being paid. I had asked him to get a contractor permit rather than a roofer permit and agreed to pay for it; so that someone would inspect the work; but he chose the cheaper permit which the City doesn't inspect in Oakland.
I could go on about the window fiasco and waiting for the worker to show up (several no-shows-no communication)or babysit; used the wrong glass that they had to replace with tempered glass (which invalidated the warranty on the original window); but you get the picture. I go up on the roof after each heavy rain to sweep off all the pooling water as it looks like the roofing material underneath is starting to buckle.
