Valuable information you should know!
-
To remove cabinets, unscrew them from the wall and pull them off. Don’t use a sledgehammer, it will be much neater and the cabinets can be reused.
-
When disconnecting the supply lines to the sink, always have a bucket handy to catch any leftover water.
-
Before taking a sledgehammer to drywall, use a small hammer to make holes in the wall to check for any electrical or plumbing behind the wall.
-
If the interior of the wall is clear of electrical or plumbing lines, use a reciprocating saw to cut out the wall section that you want to remove.
-
Use a box fan in a window to help suck out the construction dust.
thanks for the useful information! how long does the job usually take?
Cabinets should be unscrewed that way you can either reuse, donate or use to put trash for easy disposal. Make sure the supply lines & drain for the sink is disconnected before removing it. Shut of the main water & all kitchen electric before any wall demo. The time frame for kitchen depends on how much work is to be done. If your just replacing the cabinets that could be done in a week but if your doing a total remodel that could take up to 6 weeks.
there are three very important things to know.
shut off all water to the area to be demoed
shut of all electric to area.
dont do it like they do on tv, sledgehammers are for show, take it all apart using a screwgun and hammer and prybar. sledgehammers can cause damage to drywall or metal studs that would cause unnecessary repair costs
