I would recommend a minimum of at least two contractors
I would get bids from 2-3 roofing contractors. Make sure they all are Lic., insured and workers comp!
I would get at least 3 quotes becaue that allows you to figure what the average market pricing for your project is and also get a feel for the personality of the contractors you will decide to work with. Remember trust your instincts if something feels a little off with a contractor please find another one trust is key in the professional relationship between homeowner and contractor.

I would say 3 as well. Make sure it’s apples to apples. One unlicensed co in the bunch will skew your view of the price. I also agree trust your instincts. You feel of the person means a lot.
Common answer is 3. Make sure the estimate is compared apples to apples. Getting an estimate from an unlicensed, uninsured, run of the mill, fly by night contractor would be unacceptable as his costs are significantly lower than the others. You will naturally see his price and want to go with him, however, one mistake and your house falls down (or something drastic) and you’d be on the hook for the entire bill, no insurance coverage there, from either him or yours.
