I’ve been told that a person should never handle hot foods or liquids when above chest height yet millions of homes have microwaves mounted above 54 inches. Is this safe? Especially with kids in the home?
You should always be careful handling hot foods or liquids above your head but it’s not a terribly unsafe thing. Just be careful. One thing you should look out for is making sure that you have proper ventilation above your stove. If it isn’t vented correctly the steam from whatever it is you are cooking will have no place to go but up and, given enough time, it can damage the keypad on your microwave.
If you are heating lots of liquids it can be an issue. Regarding the kids though, I would rather see an over the range MW than see a standard microwave installed undercounter. When designing for an undercounter microwave I would suggest using ONLY the drawer style microwaves. Otherwise small children are at a real risk of spilling hot liquid on themselves.
it’s more of a convience to have the MW over the stove since it takes up so much counter space. if your going to use them to boil water they are dangers no matter wher they are installed. MW are not intened to be used by children they tend to put metal containers or silver ware in them
Today a lot of people will use a micro hood above the range .
most of the time it’s because you want to save space and not to have it sitting on top of the counter top .
the only thing that you need is a good installer and to make sure that the clearance is minimum 21" above the range.
in that case it is safe.
