I’ve heard even plumbers and concrete contractors can install swimming pools. Is that accurate?
no most contractors with exterior work experience can install a pool.
I always say, do you want a car mechanic fixing your dishwasher ?? Maybe other people can but specialist pool companies are exactly that…they also carry the correct insurances and bonds
No, but it is highly recommended.
As a pool builder we have decades of experience to reduce the chance of problems in the future or with the build itself.
We build in California where there are soil and lot conditions that need special engineering and care. A builder that does not work specifically with pools may not know where to over reinforce the structure to ensure a long life. Over-building the structure initially will help reduce future expenses. A poor pool structure can come back to haunt you as a homeowner.
Hope this helps!
In CALIFORNIA a General Contractor or Landscape Contractor can install a swimming pool, PROVIDED that they hire a LICENSED Swimming Pool Contractor to perform that portion of work.
A General Contractor MAY NOT sub out the various portions of a swimming pool, even if they are building a house. They must hire a swimming pool contractor.
Laws vary by state, so check with your local building department and state contractors licensing board.
