As a commercial contractor, can I legally post photos of the job sites where I've done work?

As a major commercial contractor, I would like to post photos on my BuildZoom page and premium website I have through BuildZoom. Can I legally post photographs of the work I have done? What if it is private property or government property?

Here is my tip to all: I have all my customer’s give us permission to do so or sign a release saying we will only use their last name and not show or disclose their address of their home on any photo. I would suggest making up a Release form for your Customers to read and sign consent to allow the photos to be posted on the sites you plan to post to.

to be super safe you should put that you will take, use and publish photos in the contract, not use photos with homeowners in them, or use homeowners names.

i actually have it in my contracts that when contract is signed, permission has been granted to publish photos of the project to my website, if homeowner does not feel comfortable with that well then we don’t post any project photos.

agree with 2 previous answers also.

we never publish job address, owners name etc,

i have never had anybody refuse me to be honest.

they are very happy to think their project is posted to a website.

sometimes the easiest thing is just ask their permission.

Request a permission in writing from your clients, also make it a hapit on every job to have the client sign off to use the pictures without providing address just two letters of there names and town work done, privacy of the client.

I have been on numerous projects, that DO NOT even allow cell phones (most phones have cameras) on the property, because they have “proprietary rights”…to exclusive products, and exclusive rights to certain ways of manufacturing their products, or their equipment.

On the other hand…I am constantly asked to take pics of my work…to post and share with others about our projects.

Unless there is a NON-DISCLOSURE clause in a contract you should be able to feel free to share, but you should ALWAYS…do the right thing and get permission prior to doing so.

Put it in your contract.
