I would check with the local FHBA. For example, in Port Charlotte call the Charlotte Desoto Builders Industry Association (CDBIA). They will have a list of licensed, insured contractors in the area.

BuildZoom seems to be a good option, but I would suggest a couple other sources:

  1. Houzz.com
  2. Local Architects
  3. City Officials

I think Build Zoom is a great option. You can also spend a little time researching different search results and finding a little more out about contractors in your area. Personal references aren’t bad either. If you’re willing to spend money on making improvements, you should be willing to spend some time finding the right fit with a contractor.
