Best way to level concrete floors before installing vinyl planks?

I’m doing a DIY, severe budget floor renovation. I ripped out the carpet that smelled of cat urine to install peel-and-stick vinyl floors I found on clearance. The problem is that the sub floor appears to be concrete. When we pulled the carpet nails out, some of the concrete around the nails crumbled and left medium sized divots. What’s the best way to fill in these holes and otherwise level and prep the floors?

Use a Concrete Leveling Compound and trowel. Mix compound, trowel onto floor and let dry according to directions.
