Or do I need to hire an HVAC contractor for those types of repairs?
Yes
Susannah, it is always best to hire someone that specialized in the work you are trying to get done. Legally speaking, in most states, jobs under a certain dollar amount, $2500 in WV, do not require a specialty license, so they can legally do the work. However, they may not know enough to do the work. You could hire anyone off the street to repair your car for instance, however it may not work out too well. The Duct work of your system is specially designed to handle and balance the air that your system distributes, so it is advisable, although not required, to hire someone who specializes in that field.
i would say now, improper repairs of duct work could cause equipment failure , it is important to have proper air distribution to have quality and balanced air through out the house, possible exposure to dust, fiberglass and other contaminants could cause inhabitable conditions and over what >/ over 100 dollars?? its best to get to quotes from hvac contractors and choose the one that makes more sense
cheaper is not all ways the best way to go.
Depends on scope of work to change filters button up duct work or to give evaluation yes. But most of the time dealing with HVAC I generally call on a professional to evaluate and perform maintenance. I believe in order to get it done right the first time leave it to the professionals.
That way when it is necessary to use your HVAC appliance that it is in good working condition and you have satisfaction it was completed by a professional
I rather preffer proffesional with license .
Here in the State of New Jersey a person needs to be Certified by the EPA in order to work on an HVAC unit. If that person is engaged in the business of performing HVAC work that individual needs to possess an HVAC Liscense. Now with that said, I know several extremely talented Handymen. But does that mean I would let that person work on my car? Or diagnose an ailment that I might have? No, I would go to a professional that has been to school & received the proper certifications for the task at hand in order to receive the best results.
In Massachusetts, you must carry a “Sheet Metal Workers” license to make repairs, install or replace any type of sheet metal now. Outside of duct tape, I wouldn’t recommend it in MA.
A very small repair to duct maybe. The unit no. These systems are complicated and easy to damage stick to a lic insured mechanical co
