Can I divide part of the living space of my condo into a bedroom if there's a window?

Hi, I am planning to purchase a condo which has a big living/dining space. I would like to divide some space into a bedroom. However, one of the side is all window, is it possible to frame it? How much is it usually to frame a 90 square feet with lighting and plug in?

This is a good question. It’s tough to put a price on how much it would cost for this project without looking at First. I would start at about $25 per square ft. The more complex like existing windows and number of finished walls could go up from there.

Hi Shanna,

Based on your description, I doubt that you will be able to make that conversion without any major hurdles to overcome from your homeowner’s association. Usually, they do not allow exterior modifications that would change the look or the exterior appearance of the condo. In my opinion, you will be asked to keep the windows as they are, which means that you would have to plan your project around the existing exterior. Cost wise, if it is only partition walls with couple of lights and plugs, you should be looking at under $10K, unless exterior work is permitted, then your cost will only go up from there.

Hope that helps,

I would go 25,000

Yes, you can, ultimately if you have approval from the city.
