Can I power wash windows?

Our windows have 40 years of caked on grime, rust, etc. We can’t afford to replace them, and getting into all the crevices and cracks is impossible. Can we safely power wash them without braking the glass?

I would not recommend it. The problem with windows that old is that they are probably single pane, which is not as strong as the windows today. Also, if you don’t break the glass, you could damage the structure of the window and its seal.

Power washing windows is not recommended as you will most likely force water past the window weather stripping and in to your home.

Power Washing WILL damage your windows, and home, absolutely!

Every window system will incur damage from being power washed, be it breaking glass directly to blowing out frame sealant, glazing sealant, and so on.

Think of all the window cleaners out there, now think of how many you have seen with a power washer in hand, yeah, zero, there is a reason for that.

If you can’t afford to replace them, then your sure can’t afford to destroy them. Don’t power wash, its like using a sand blaster to get mud off a car.
