Can you put a subfloor over concrete for hardwood floors?

We’re replacing the carpet in our upstairs unit with hardwood floors. Under the carpet appears to be concrete, presumably to help with sound transference. Can we lay subfloor over this, or do we need to remove the concrete first?

Yes that shouldn’t be a problem. Its recommended that you install a sealer in between the concrete and subfloor in order to ensure moisture does not seep through. Hope that helps

It’s usually not necessary to put a subfloor over a concrete floor, but you certainly can do that.

You can install a subfloor over that They have 2x2 raised panels that you anchor to the floor. They are available at Lowes.
