I wanted to build my house and come back to the pool in a couple years when my kids are older, but since we’re already building a custom home, is it cheaper to just build it while the house is going up? I might reconsider if there’s a significant difference since equipment and workers are already on-site.

You would be better off to install the pool while building your home, less headache, cost & time.
Building the pool after, disrupt your life, takes more time and cost more money.
