I have unfinished space under my house that’s very sizeable. I wanted to find out what main considerations I should have and costs of converting that space into a steam room, similar to a turkish bath. What are approximate ballpark costs?
here are the few things to consider:
-steam room requires proper water proofing walls and ceilings
-requires to add tile or solid surface to ceiling to deal with moisture
-equipment needed to make steam and most likely a drain from the equipement. there are equipment availbable that has a built in drain pan and the quality is great but costs a lot more then std steam machines.
As previously mentioned, waterproofing is a primary concern but here are some other factors:
If you have a glass door, it must be tempered and seal the room in order to trap the steam and heat.
In addition, its highly recommended that you have an operable transom to dry out the room after use to prevent the build up of mildew and fungi.
If using a steam generator there will be considerable electric requirements and you may need to upgrade the existing service or install a sub-panel.
Also a drain is highly recommended where the steam unit is installed just in case of a blowout or other catastrophic failure.
Without knowing anything about the size of your steam room or anything about the electrical service, it is impossible to give you even a remote ballpark.
