Good afternoon Jiyan,

The cost per sq ft to build a custom home in Los Angeles is 350 sqft and up.
It will actually depend on the materials or preference of the homeowner that they would like to use.

Thank you.

The SF Cost is a catch 22. Especially for custom homes. With today’s market the cost typically starts at $325.00 a square foot and up, percent is based on finishes and some based on your engineer. Most people don’t know selecting you architect and engineer are as big as selecting your builder. Your engineer of record can over engineer your project, resulting in increased cost on your structural side.

Based on the bidding data we’ve been able to analyze, it certainly seems as though the cost per sq ft in the Los Angeles area seems to start at around $300 and go up from there. There certainly seems to be a gap between what some of the national cost estimation tools suggest and the reality of the situation. For example, a lot of sources suggest the national average is around $150 and the adjustment for Los Angeles is around 10%, which would get you to around $165 per sq ft. This is clearly way off - I’m wondering if the inaccurate national estimates are leading to problems when clients see bids coming in at $350 per sq ft and up.
