We moved into a rental house with a 13 year old gas water heater. There’s about 2 inches of moldy water in the bottom pan. The heater is lit and providing hot water throughout the house fine. There doesn’t seem to be any active leaks, as the water isn’t increasing…just standing and moldy. Landlord is installing a new one next week. Is there any danger in letting them current one run until then?
Yes use wet shop vac and if the pan refills then you may have drain tube that needs to be redirected, that’s not the issue you must replace damage tank
If it is only one more week, probably not. But, if it were my place, I think I might get an old rag and soak it up with the standing water, and then throw the rag away. Make sure you put something over your mouth and nose and no possible microbes can enter your respiratory system.
