During interior painting, is there anything the contractor can do to minimize the “paint smell”?

“Yes!”. All of the paint manufacturers we use offer zero VOC paints, which means they do not have a bad smell. This paint is safe for pregnant women and is a great choice for anyone that is sensitive to the paint smell or just finds it unpleasant. We can also put additives in the paint (both zero VOC and regular) to give it a pleasant aroma. We can add, for example, vanilla or coffee bean additives. The aroma can last up to a couple of weeks!

In addition to the zero VOC paint, Pegasus Remodeling, Inc has always utilized Hepa filters, throughout the home, in order to aid with any lingering odors.

Oil based paints give off the worse odors.

Open windows, coffee grounds, candles and scented air fresheners all help to minimize this.

Ben Moore sells Natura paint with no odor, but the paint is not cheap! Zero VOC paints are not necessarily odor free, but usually low odor.

No matter what you use there is always going to be some hint of a smell. Paint companies are manufacturing zero VOC products now. This will definitely help with those annoying smells from other chemicals. Also sometimes a painting company will have to use cleaners or shellacs for certain applications that you just cannot avoid. Hope this helps.

Yes use a low to no VOC = Volitile organic compound paint. the lower the number the less the odor.
