How do you decide whether you should hire a contractor or learn to do it yourself? I’d say I’m fairly handy but am definitely not an expert at home improvement.
I would say it is all about your skill level. If you feel comfortable doing home improvements on your own, then by all means save a little cash and tackle your project. On the other hand if the project is something you don’t feel comfortable with or its just to big or too involved then hire a professional who has the expertise and experience to handle your project. You can always call Fodale Remodeling for a little advise on your project. Building lasting relationships with people is what we strive for. If we can be of assistance even by answering some of your do it yourself questions we are always willing to help.
Also consider the city/county you are in, in some places, certain work (plumbing and electrical) must be completed by a licensed contractor.
If you have the time and aptitude, go for it. You’ll likely save money but most projects will take much longer than if you hired a professional.
Everyone wants to save a dollar. But on some jobs you need to pull permits need to know coding. But go ahead & try to do yourself. If you have issues during the project you can always call a licensed contractor.
It depends on the Scope of your project. If you are merely doing “cosmetic” items, such as paint then it’s probably something you could take on. Most individuals do not realize that even relatively small projects require multiple trades (framing, drywall, electrical, plumbing, etc.) that require a license and/or skill/knowledge of that specialty. I would recommend hiring a Contractor in this instance.
Also, when you do things yourself – you notice every little mistake and seem to focus on those instead of enjoying your new remodel!
Depending on the scope of work and skills of the owner, the choice of hiring a contractor can be determined. On serious trades that require training. I recommend always hiring a professional to deal with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. Trying to save a few dollars could result in fires or catastrophes due to poor quality work.
