How are recent changes to Massachusetts state building codes affecting the cost of construction projects?

Building codes

In this new Era of upside down lets defy logic world… Massachusetts is one of the few states in the union to implement the 2012 codes instead of just the 2010 codes that others states have put in place. Like any new set of rules just how to interpret them, implement them and enforce them creates an array of questions and debate. My area is primarily commercial “Design Build” remodeling projects. I fear that the benefits of the design build concept of remodeling will be lost. The new codes are fat with environmental, energy, and interdepartmental sharing of approval authority that makes pulling a permit more lengthy, arduous and down right frustrating. But like all new Codes they are here and here to stay no matter what the impact means to the marketplace…

Adoption 2012 IECC (International Environmental Conservation Code) is new and the answer to that question is still in the making. The pertinent question in my mind is how to deliver the best product customers so that they spend less on energy over time and have a structure that will be long lasting and well built. If that is the goal then the codes are typically exceeded!
