How can I find out if my contractor has built our roof system properly?

We are building a new home, and our roof has several different pitches. Our contractor has connected the rafters directly to the 7/16" osb decking. I’m not an expert, but I’m pretty sure the rafters need more than 7/16" osb for support. The osb is already sagging a little where it is connected. How do we go about having this inspected and corrected? Any help or advice would be appreciated!

I would contact a local building inspector or your permit office.

Contact the building department where the permit was obtained and ask for an inspection. Alternately you can hire an engineer to do an inspection. This will cost a small fee (generally $100-$300) but they will provide you a professional report of their findings and are very thorough.

The local building official should inspect the work but you can also call another contractor out there or make them show you and educate you on the process, we have to pass inspection of fines get incurred for not passing an inspection within the time frame within permit guidelines.

Call a local independent inspector. Or you can also reach out to the Licensing division of your local county government for advice on how to proceed.

Best

Most if not all industry standard contractual specifications require the roofing installer to conduct a standing water test. This is a foolproof way to ensure that the roofing that has been installed is satisfactory. Furthermore always ensure to acquire a warranty on both materials and labor.

An inspection should be done by the city or county the permit was pulled in.
