The level of skill of a contractor can be determined by the certifications received and number of years in business with a good Better Business Bureau rating. The longer a contractor is in business under the same name shows his stability. Also, the contractor builds relationships with his suppliers and sub contractors with ongoing years in business. Relationships help in providing quality work and materials as well as promptness. Experience is learning. The longer in business the more mistakes made and learned. With experience comes less mistakes.
Im not in Cali but I don’t agree with these answers. Ive seen contractors claiming 20 years experience be some of the worst and Ive seen young hungry just got a license guys do some dang good work. Don’t go by pictures, ask for references. 9 times out of ten you can tell within 5 minutes. Look at the tools. If they are rocking harbor freight tools send them home. If he has a $90 blade but it looks like he hasn’t cleaned his tools since he bought them he will probably treat your project the same way.
I don’t think years in business is the important question when choosing a contractor.
you should have a good rapport with the contractor you choosing.
there are contraction that had there lic# for years but simply doesn’t practice. or just bad at it.
there are some that just in there first year that will give you excellent quality and customer service for that it is crucial for their business future.
you can check when a licence issued at the contractor licence board website.
Best of luck.
This is a very tricky question you can go with your gut feelings but you need to make sure that the guy knows what he’s talking about that’s number 1 second of all how many years of experience does he have and then see for yourself some of his projects the same project that you want to do also make sure that those are his projects and not something he took from others today we use a lot of video testimonials that can show the work the other owner of the house and how he was please or not normally a company will have in their website a page of video testimonials but you can also go online to check their references it’s very important not to make when it’s a big job the decision on the spot unless you already did the research on the contactor you can check for example in our page on Facebook video testimonials and also in the YouTube page you can see over their customers and repeated customers what they saying on our company if they saying that on the other contractor you can be sure you can hire him I’m not sure what area you are but you can see that example from our web pages
