How do I find a builder for a custom home?

How do I find GCs that have specifically done custom homes before in my area? What questions should I ask them besides the standard license/insurance/referrals questions?

Hi Virginia,

  1. Do a search on the local and state builders association as a starting point.
    Example: Southern Arizona Builders Association

  2. Talk with the builder about your vision.
    a. Does the builder fully grasp your ideas?
    b. Does the builder add valuable input to your overall plan?

  3. Do you work well with the builder? This is very important…

Our family has been completing award winning projects throughout Arizona and Kentucky for the past 49 years. Hope you’re in the neighborhood!

Hello,
I would recommend looking at the profiles of potential contractors and under projects of “full home remodels” to find out whether or not they are capable of doing larger jobs.

Thank you,

Hello,
Dos not metter how you find your builder. Look: Google, BBB, Builders Association, …
Before you sign, you need to check:
How many custom homes he builds. ask for addresses.
Licenses, insurance, reference list. Visit 3-4 previews jobs – if possible ask the owner how easy is to work with GC.
You must visit current project and see by your salve.

Hi Virginia,
I will answer you behave of my customers, every contractor have reviews, license and insurances.
You need to set up a day and go over his projects and talk to his customer- this is the most important part!
The real answer will come from the customers, go to yelp and text to the customers that wrote reviews the good and the bad ones, it will help you a lot to learn about the GC and understand if you want to work with him or not.
